Chemex

American coffeemaker manufacturer founded in 1941 by chemist Peter Schlumbohm, based in Chicopee, Massachusetts. Schlumbohm designed the Chemex as a single-piece hourglass-shaped vessel combining brewer and carafe, using thick bonded paper filters. The design has been part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York since 1943.
