The April Brewer was released in 2020 by April Coffee Roasters, a Copenhagen-based roastery and brewer founded by Patrik Rolf — a former World Brewers Cup finalist. The brewer was designed around a specific goal: a flat-bottom dripper optimised for the light-roasted, high-extraction Nordic cup profile April built its reputation on.
Its geometry is distinct. The bed is flat but narrow, the walls are steep, and the single central drainage hole is wide — the opposite of the Kalita Wave's three-hole restricted flow. The result is a brewer that lets water pass through the bed quickly and agitates the coffee less than a Wave would, producing a cup that tastes noticeably sweeter and more delicate at the same extraction yield. It pairs naturally with very light roasts, which often need high agitation on a V60 to extract properly but lose their finesse when pushed too hard.
A starting recipe aligned with Patrik Rolf's own approach: 20 g of coffee to 300 g of water (1:15), medium-fine grind, water at 94–96 °C, a single continuous pour over 40 to 50 seconds, total drawdown in 2:30 to 3:00. The April uses V60 02 paper filters, which keeps the ecosystem simple. It is the dripper for specialty drinkers who want the flavour profile of a Nordic café in their kitchen.
