Blue Bottle Coffee's French Press method. Bloom first, then add water to full. Press to just above the grounds — not all the way down. This gentle approach produces a cleaner French Press cup.

Method

Pour 60g, stir gently.
+60g 10s slow -

Add remaining water to 350g. Place lid.

Press slowly to 1cm above the ground level. Stop.

Pour carefully. The plunger acts as a filter barrier.

Notes
Blue Bottle's key innovation is pressing only to just above the grounds rather than all the way to the bottom. This acts as a barrier without pushing fines through the mesh. The result is noticeably cleaner than a full-press method while maintaining the body that makes French Press special.
