The French Press 12 Cup holds roughly 1.5 L of brewed coffee — enough for a breakfast table of four or five, or a busy morning where refills matter more than precision. It is the size you reach for when the press needs to act as a communal coffee pot rather than a single ritual.
At this scale two things become more important. First, the bed is deep enough that a longer bloom and a gentle stir after the first pour help wet every particle evenly. Second, the steep window widens: 4 minutes still works, but some brewers go up to 5 to compensate for the slower water-grounds contact in the middle of the mass. Keep the 1:16 ratio — around 90 g of coffee to 1450 g of water — and use a coarse grind.
Expect the same full body and rounded mouthfeel as any French press, just in a pot big enough to keep everyone served. Pour through a kitchen sieve when dispensing if you want to catch the last of the fines.
