The Melitta 1x4 is the full-size wedge dripper in the Melitta range, sized for two to four cups. Same shape as the 1x2, same single drainage hole, same shallow ribs — only scaled up to fit 25 to 40 g of coffee and brew up to about 700 ml of coffee in one go.
At this size the longer drawdown becomes noticeable. The deeper bed means water sits on the coffee for 4 to 5 minutes before the brew finishes, which pushes extraction higher than on the 1x2 unless you adjust the grind. Most brewers go one notch coarser than their 1x2 setting and expect a slightly rounder, fuller cup with the same balanced sweetness.
A reliable recipe: 30 g of coffee to 480 g of water (1:16), medium grind coarsened one notch from your 1x2 setting, water at 93–95 °C, three or four pours in 4:00 to 5:00. Uses 1x4 paper filters, available anywhere Melitta is sold. It is the classic European family brewer — the brewer in countless European kitchens between the 1960s and now, and still a genuinely good cup if you treat it with the same care you would a modern dripper.
