The RAN SWITCH is the immersion version of the V60 RAN: a size-02 cone for one to four cups with a stainless-steel ball valve built into its base, the same lever mechanism as the Hario Switch. Hario lists it as the V60 Immersion Dripper Concave RAN (SSDL-02). Like the RAN 01, the project was led by Hario Shanghai under the supervision of Yasuo Suzuki of TRUNK COFFEE; it is not sold by Hario Japan, and TRUNK offers it as a model unreleased in Japan.
It keeps the RAN's interior: recessed ribs whose lower sections are interrupted to leave deliberate gaps behind the paper. According to Hario Shanghai and TRUNK those gaps lower drainage resistance and keep water from running down the wall instead of through the bed, which is why Suzuki pours from the outside in. It takes V60 02 cone papers.
It comes in Jingdezhen porcelain and in a clear PCT body, in colours such as Pure Haze, Transparent Gray and Dark Turquoise, with a double-wall titanium version as well. With the lever down it percolates like a V60; lifted, it holds the water for immersion, so one brew can mix both. One retailer, Hooray Coffee, finds it drains 30 to 45 seconds faster than the original Switch over a two-pour brew; that is a shop's observation, not a Hario figure.
