The Hario V60 RAN 01 is a one-to-two-cup concave dripper led by Hario Shanghai and developed under the supervision of Yasuo Suzuki of TRUNK COFFEE. The project went through more than a year and a half of experiments and prototypes. It retains a V60-style cone and 12 main channels, but reshapes the lower wall to control how the paper, air and liquid meet.
Sections of the lower ribs are interrupted to form deliberate clearances behind the paper. According to Hario Shanghai and TRUNK, those spaces reduce drainage resistance, maintain a stable downward flow and limit water escaping along the sidewall instead of passing through the coffee bed. The design target is therefore not simply maximum speed, but more uniform extraction and repeatability with less uncontrolled bypass.
Hario Shanghai documents a PCT-resin model with a silicone base, made in China, plus a separate foldable silicone version for one to two cups. The RAN sits in Hario's V60 01 range and uses size-01 conical paper. In Lance Hedrick's comparison it produced the sweetest, ripest cup and slightly higher extraction than the Alpha under the test conditions; those are reviewer observations, not guaranteed flavor traits. A V60-01 recipe is a useful baseline, but grind and drawdown should be tuned independently.
