Bag scanning and your shelf
Free + ProPhotograph the bag, keep the coffee
Everything worth knowing about a coffee is printed on its bag, usually in small type on the back. Photograph it and Gota reads it for you, puts the coffee on your shelf and from then on keeps track of how fresh it is and how much is left.
What Gota reads from the label
Take up to three photos of the bag — front, back, a side — or paste the text. Gota reads:
- the coffee's name and the roaster;
- origin: country (or countries, for a blend), region, farm, producer;
- variety, altitude, and whether it is decaf;
- process and its details, and the roast level;
- the roast date, harvest and lot, and the net weight;
- the tasting notes and the method the roaster suggests;
- certifications.
What isn't on the label stays empty: Gota doesn't fill gaps with guesses.
Two ways to scan
For my shelf saves the coffee with everything above. Before you buy only shows you a card about it — handy in a shop when you're deciding between two bags — and saves nothing.
Freshness and the grams left
From the roast date, Gota knows where a coffee is: resting, ready, at its best, fading or past it. Once you open the bag it also counts the days since. Each brew takes its dose off the bag, Gota warns you below 40 g and estimates when it will run out.
An image of your bag
Gota also makes an image of the bag from your photo, front-on, with its colours and type, so your shelf looks like your shelf. It takes about twenty seconds. The images for your first three coffees are free; after that they come with Gota Pro. If one ever fails, the coffee keeps a drawn label.
Flavour and a recipe for this coffee
With Gota Pro, each coffee also gets a reading of what to expect in the cup — a summary, three to five likely notes, two or three of your brewers that suit it and how to adjust — and Gota can write a starting recipe for it on the brewer you choose.
Free and Pro
Your shelf, freshness, the grams left and adding coffees by hand are free. Scanning the label is part of Gota Pro, except for the first bag you add when you set up the app and the label photo behind each of your three free bag images.
