Acaia
Acaia Lunar
Acaia's espresso scale: small enough for a machine's drip tray, water-resistant and precise to 0.1 g. Both the original Lunar and the Lunar 2021 connect to Gota over Bluetooth.
What Gota does with your Acaia Lunar
-
Live pour rate
Gota works out how fast you're pouring from the weight, in grams per second, and tells you whether you're on pace for the recipe — even if your scale doesn't show flow itself.
-
A cue at the target
A sound and a tap just before each pour reaches its weight, so you can watch the coffee instead of the display.
-
Pours that end by weight
With the scale connected, each pour closes on its own once the target weight settles. You can still tap Done.
-
Your brew, measured
The coffee and water the scale weighed, and the curve of each pour against the recipe's plan, stay in your brew history.

Lunar or Lunar 2021?
Both share the same aluminium body, 105 × 105 mm and 15 mm tall, and the same 2 kg capacity, and Acaia says they are equally fast and accurate. The Lunar 2021 adds a flow-rate bar on the display, USB-C charging (the original uses micro-USB), four brightness levels, Tare Save and a summary of weight and average flow when you lift the cup. A 2023 firmware update also gave it a pour-over mode that starts the timer when water from the kettle hits the scale.
Gota works with both, and reads which generation it is from the scale itself when it connects.
Which mode to use with Gota
Gota only needs the weight. It runs the recipe's clock and works out your pour rate from the weight, so the Lunar's timers and auto-start modes are optional while you brew with the app. Weighing mode is the plainest place to start.
For reference, the Lunar 2021 has seven modes: Weighing, Dual Display (weight and timer), Timer Starts with Flow, Auto-Tare Timer Starts with Flow, Auto-Tare Auto-Start Timer, Auto-Tare and Pour Over Auto-Start Timer. The original Lunar has the first six.
As a pour-over scale
Acaia designed the Lunar for espresso, on the drip tray of a machine. It handles pour-over too, and 2 kg covers any home dripper and server, but at 10.5 cm across a wide server can sit over the display. If you mostly brew filter coffee, the larger Pearl is the more comfortable fit: see the Lunar and the Pearl side by side. With Gota, the grams left and your pour rate are on your phone, so a covered display matters less.
Battery and water
Acaia rates the Lunar 2021 at 30 to 40 hours per charge, and it won't charge while it's hot; the original Lunar is rated at up to 27 hours. Both are water-resistant, not waterproof: wipe them, don't rinse them.
Pair it with Gota
-
1
Turn the scale on and keep it near your iPhone.
-
2
In Gota, open Settings → Scale and choose Acaia, then Lunar.
-
3
Tap your scale when it appears. From then on it connects by itself whenever you open a recipe to brew.
- A scale talks to one app at a time: close any other app connected to it so Gota can connect.
