Walk Away

by Phil P

Fill the insert to the ridge in one go, drop the lid, and come back seven minutes later. Phil P has been brewing the KF300 like this since 2005 — the longest contact-time recipe in the set, leaning on the regulator the way the brewer was designed to work.

Notes

Pour water just before the full boil — the kettle should be starting to bubble but not roaring. The long, slow contact wants the extra heat. The insert holds about 243ml; total flow through the bed lands near 275g once the grounds release their water. After the first drips the flow stops for around 3 minutes — this is the regulator doing its job, not a stall. Do not pour more water. The final drips finish near 7:00. Lift the brewer; the cup is about two-thirds of a mug.
