Varia FLO

Flow-screen flat-bottom dripper

Recipes 41 Authors

The Varia FLO is a stainless-steel flat-bottom dripper designed by Varia with Kurasu Kyoto. A Kalita Wave 185-style paper filter sits above an interchangeable metal flow screen, so the brewer can change drainage speed and flow path without changing the coffee bed geometry.

The standard kit includes Fast, Medium, and Slow screens. Fast pushes brightness, clarity, and a sparkling finish; Medium is the default balanced screen; Slow adds body and a rounder mouthfeel. Because the body is double-walled stainless steel, it holds heat better than most thin metal drippers while staying cool enough to handle.

A starting recipe: 13 g of coffee to 200 g of water, medium grind, Medium screen, four equal pours, finishing around 2:10 to 2:30. Move to Fast for clearer, higher-acidity coffees; move to Slow when you want more body or when a fast-draining coffee tastes thin.
